Leaders are readers and many don’t read
Not All Readers Are Leaders, But All Leaders Are Readers – Harry S Truman
In today’s world getting educated in your downtime is easier than ever. Do you commute? Do you watch TV? Do you Facebook? Believe me if you analyzed where you spend your time I am almost certain you can come up with 2 hours a day. A year ago I took a very hard look at where I spent my time and I gained 24 hours a week. That is HUGE! You can do the same.
Reading 1 Book A Month Is A Realistic Goal
If you set aside the 15 minutes a day reading 1 book a month is realistic. For me mornings downstairs in the lobby of my condo or across the street at the neighbouring hotel lobby with my coffee guaranteed me 1 book a month. If I didn’t leave my place the odds of me missing my morning meeting with my book were 100% and if I didn’t get it done in the morning it was with certainty that the task would not happen. Kids, phones, TV’s and computers need to be left behind.
How To Get 2 More Books A Month In
With audio books you can turn your commute time into University time. The hardest part is saying goodbye to your music. This took me a few months to get comfortable with. What if you just took the 1st 15 minutes of your commute to and from for an audio book? I guarantee you will soon start to love them and choose a book over music. I use Audible.com by Amazon for all my audio books.
With audio books I have found getting through 1 book every 2 weeks is very reasonable and doable. A cool feature with the Audible App is that you can adjust the play speed. You can listen to most books easily at 1.5X speed. The audible app allows up to 3X speed. When you listen at a higher speed I find I actually get more from the book because it really gets me focused.
Leaders Are Readers
The power of audiobooks is that you can now get 3 books a month in fairly effortlessly and be on your way to being a great leader.
How much more do you think you get out of a book you read vs. listening to one? What book are you reading / Listening to now? I’m almost done The 10X Rule by Grant Cardone and it’s an excellent listen.
